This high performance timber-frame home uses SIPS (Structurally Insulated Panels) as part of its building envelope. This project was a labor of love by a passionate homeowner-builder who embraced a steep learning curve and delivered an outstanding final result!

With an energy rating close to 0 GJ annually, this house achieves Net Zero status! However, the property also includes a cabin, which uses some of the overall energy generation capacity. Some of the key features include:

  • Exterior walls include R24 rock wool batt + R6 Rockwool to the exterior

  • Heat pump with electric furnace for backup heat

  • Heat recovery ventilation system (Energystar)

  • Electric heat pump hot water system

  • .14 GJ/m2/year energy intensity

  • Airtight at .3 air changes per hour using Aerobarrier

  • Triple pane, low-e windows from Innotech

  • High efficiency appliances and LED lighting

  • Solar photovoltaic
