People ask us, “What exactly do you do?” It’s a great question and truthfully, our job description as an “Energy Analyst” isn’t exactly straightforward. At Sol Invictus Energy Services, we are certified by Natural Resources Canada as Energy Advisors (EA’s). We consult with home-owners, home-builders and other construction professionals regarding the energy performance of residential buildings such as single-family homes, duplexes/fourplexes and row/townhomes. We use software to find out home much energy a building uses, and consult with clients to find out how they can reduce their energy consumption (and utility costs) before they construct their building. With our knowledge of Passive House, Net Zero home construction, solar energy, and access to our network of construction professionals, we can assist our clients in constructing an efficient, functional home that provides no surprises in utility costs. We also consult on existing homes and retrofits, in order to better understand a home’s energy consumption and what can be done in order to increase the home’s performance. Much of our day-to-day work involves working with clients in ensuring they are constructing their new home according to the Alberta Building Code 2014 Section 9.36 – Energy Efficiency. The process is simple: We model the home you wish to build against the exact same home (a “reference home” with the same dimensions, orientation, window and wall ratio’s and other unique characteristics but constructed with the minimum code requirements for insulation, mechanical equipment efficiencies and window specifications. Checking out new tech available for #airsealing in #residentialhomebuilding through #journaloflightconstruction. I'd love to see this in action. Picture this: pressurizing the building while an aerosol calking is sprayed through the house, and pushed through all the tiny little holes left during the construction process. It fills up the holes that normally air, moisture and heat would travel through if left unsealed. In the video, they went from 1 ACH @ 50 pa to 0.3. The house was obviously tight before but now it is at a level rarely met. Keep in mind, most builders in AB are striving for 2.5 ACH @50 pascals! What a difference this will have in conserving energy and limiting moisture/air transfer through the building envelop. Note, this home will of course have an air exchange system installed for fresh air for those if you wondering. So much thought and selection was put into this part of the house (thanks to @eurocustomcabinets (Kuhlmann via Germany). The cabinets are low VOC and formaldehyde free, adding to the healthy indoor air quality of this home . The kitchen surrounds the high performance triple glaze low e Euro #tiltandturn window (@internorm_canada). . One of the coolest features is the built in seating into the huge workspace/island, perfect for additional seating, visiting and prepping. All cabinets are touch to open and handeless with interior hidden drawers. The pantry has glass shelving, and our "lazy Susan" is hardly lazy as it bumps out and allows complete access to the deepest corners. . Built in LED lighting that cools or warms remotely adds to the energy efficiency component of this #passivehouse #netzero home. Additional details make this kitchen functional and fun like his and hers junk drawers, USB plugs, and toe kick vacuum system. The energy efficiency of this kitchen was a prime goal with low energy appliances throughout from the flex fridge to the induction stove. This one day event will celebrate the grand opening of Red Deer College’s new Alternative Energy Lab and ReThink Red Deer’s ongoing support of alternative energy leadership in the central Alberta region. This event has a mission to provide the community of Red Deer and the students of Red Deer College with opportunities to learn about a wide range of alternative energy options. The day will include: - A KEYNOTE ADDRESSS, - EXPERT PANEL DISCUSSION, - WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS, TOURS of the CENTRE FOR INNOVATION and ALTERNATIVE ENERGY LAB, - INTERACTIVE DEMONSTRATIONS and, - A GREEN TRADE FAIR You are invited to share your proposals to participate in the event. Workshops and seminars should be targeted to 15-20 participants and be completed in a one-hour time block, inclusive of set-up and Q&A.
